Supporting Donor Families

The loss of a loved one can be extremely challenging. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, but there are healthy ways to deal with the grieving process. LEBW provides resources to donor families that have chosen to give the gift of sight and preserve their loved one’s legacy. We realize that deciding to donate is not always easy, especially amidst the loss of a loved one. Donation is a precious gift, and we honor your loved one’s gift with the utmost respect and care. We have outlined a few resources below that may give you strength during your time of need. If you need additional grief resources, please contact us at 877.233.2354 ext. 212 or send us an email.

Donor families are encouraged to participate in the many programs and activities offered by LEBW as a way to help you through your grief journey.

We bereaved are not alone. We belong to the largest company in all the world – the company of those who have known suffering.

Grief Resources

Corresponding with Recipients – Many families find comfort in corresponding with the recipient(s) of their loved one’s donation. Should you decide that writing the recipient(s) is right for you, we are honored to help facilitate that process.

Donor Memorial Quilt – we welcome you to create a square (provided by LEBW) in honor of your loved one. The quilt travels throughout Wisconsin to raise awareness of organ, eye, and tissue donation and to honor our heroes who offered the gift of sight.

Published Tribute – Another way to commemorate your loved one is to create a tribute in their honor. Tributes can be used on the LEBW website, featured in various resources, and exhibiting materials as well as LEBW social media platforms. Each tribute is unique but may include describing your loved one’s personality, interests, occupation, travel experiences, aspirations, achievements, information about them and your family, favorite quotes or stories and photos.

Facebook Support Group – LEBW offers a private Facebook support group for family members of those who have offered the gift of sight. Facilitated by LEBW’s Family and Community Care Specialist, this group is a safe forum for families to connect with and support one another along their grief journey. To join this private Facebook group, please contact Family Services at 877.233.2354, ext. 212.
