For Funeral Directors

The Lion’s Eye Bank of Wisconsin works closely with funeral homes and funeral home directors to ensure that families wishes for their loved one to be an organ donor are fulfilled.  Our procedures are non-invasive and should not delay arrangements.

Have questions? Contact us and learn more.

Our procedures are non-invasive and should not interfere with any processes that funeral directors have.

LEBW hopes that no associated costs with donation are passed on to a family. If your process is impeded by organ donation due to fulfilling a families wishes, please let us know and fill out a form. Find the form here. You can email the filled form to icastaneda@lebw.org, or send it via fax to 608-233-2895

Before performing your procedures, you can help us recover faster by doing the following:

  • Scheduling body prep and ebalming after corneal tissue is recovered to ensure the families wishes
  • Keeping the body cooled to aid in tissue recovery
  • Do not spray the eyes with disinfectant before tissue is recovered. Doing so renders tissue unsuitable for transplant
  • Please wait until after after recovery to use eye caps. Not doing so leaves tissue unsuitable for transplant.

We are available for contact 24 hours a day for questions and information pending recoveries. Call us at 608-233-2354 and then press 1
