On Call Recovery Technicians (RT) for North West Wisconsin (Eau Claire area) and West Central (La Crosse area)
On-call RTs cover a 100 mile radius and are scheduled for and responsible for the safe recovery of donated ocular tissue (in situ corneal excision and whole globe enucleation) utilizing sterile/aseptic technique. RTs travel to site of donor (hospital, morgue, funeral home or medical examiner location) and are responsible for the review of donor medical records, performing surgical recovery and maintaining communication with the donor coordinator regarding case circumstances and unique observations.
RTs are expected to submit a monthly schedule of on-call availability. Schedules may accommodate other employment obligations, but will have minimum requirements to maintain.
Expect to commit to a minimum of 3-4 days or nights per week (8 to 12 hours each) and two or more weekends (48 to 72 hours each) per month.
Surgical techs and nurses make great candidates for this position. Pay is “per case” and starts out at $100 per case after training plus mileage reimbursement.

Hospital Development (HD)
One of the crucial roles of LEBW is Hospital Development and Education. This department manages the donor awareness programs and the strategic alliances with the state hospitals and other donor procurement agencies. The HD department creates, develops and distributes public and educational materials and conducts fund raising events. Future growth of LEBW rests largely on HD.
Recovery Technician
This part-time on-call position is the focal point for recovery activities throughout the state. Full time staff can not adequately service the entire state of Wisconsin. As such, part time recovery technicians are dispatched within their geographical area to perform recoveries and complete the required paperwork. Recoveries are performed in hospital emergency and operating rooms, morgues or funeral homes.
Lab Technician
This full-time position is responsible for the timely review of comprehensive donor records through actual release of the ocular tissue. In addition to performing recoveries, the lab tech evaluates tissue, reviews medical records, processes donor tissue eligibility and determines whether tissue is suitable for transplant. Lab Technicians also performs Coordinator duties.
Donor Coordinator
The Donor Coordinator is the first person to have contact with the donor family. Donor Coordinators screen and triage potential donors, obtain family consent for donation, and conduct medical screening histories. The Donor Coordinator dispatches recovery technicians and also arranges for transport of tissue from the recovery sight to LEBW in Madison. Strict attention to detail is essential as each step in the process must be accurately documented.
Lab Assistant
This part-time position provides office support to the lab by photo copying documents, assembling recovery kits, inventory supplies and delivers supplies, tissue or other items to local recipients.
Office Assistant
This part-time position provides administrative relief to the Office Manager, Hospital Development, Quality Systems and Community Relations departments. Clerical duties such as photo copying forms, assembly of manuals, file maintenance and mailings are typical duties.
